Nutrition Bars – the latest in “good for me”

In recent years, a change in consumer behavior has been observed. Consumers across the globe are spending more time in transit because of their daily routine. This extra time is being filled with everyday practicalities such as online banking, shopping – or eating. The appeal of on-the-go food and snacking has not waned. 39% of consumers often snack while in-transit, especially when going to work in the morning.

On-the-go wellness

That’s when snack bars are coming in handy: being a convenient snacking option, they are well positioned with 18 – 44 years old. Yet, consumers across all age groups are interested in ingredients that can deliver functional benefits, also in terms of bars: those which boost energy, improve health, or increase performance are especially popular. Providing a natural energy boost, coffee ingredients are drawing more attention from snack bar brands which have spotted an opportunity to connect with coffee lovers. Since the brain is one of the most energy-consuming organs, strong development potential also exists in supporting mental performance.

Red Ginseng – caffeine-free alternative

But there are also options for delivering energy without caffeine: red ginseng root has been traditionally used for several millennia in China and Korea to strengthen and invigorate when tired or feeling weak. Today, many people associate ginseng with strengthening brain functions as well as mental performance. This effect is achieved in several ways. A number of studies show that ginseng has a positive effect on memory performance, reaction time, learning speed and memory capacity.

Another property that makes ginseng so special is the increase in energy levels: ginseng has long been valued by people who need to perform at the highest level. And even more positive, the good thing about the energy that ginseng gives is that it is organic in nature and not comparable to stimulants such as caffeine.

Botanicals: next generation source of holistic wellbeing & authentic natural flavor booster

As features such as natural, free-from and functional claims are becoming standard in the nutrition bar aisle, it is clear that clean label and physical as well as mental wellbeing are becoming just as important as taste and convenience. Botanicals can help to create these labels and at the same time deliver authentic, natural taste. Martin Bauer offers hundreds of ingredients from more than 200 carefully selected and minimally processed botanicals. Featuring exciting flavor notes, function and nutrition, our botanicals can add value to your nutrition bar – in the most authentic way.
