Today, the German Sustainability Award’s 240-strong expert jury announced the prize-winners in 20 different formats and 100 sectors. And MartinBauer, a member of global group of companies the nature network, is among them, as one of German industry’s leading sustainable transformation pioneers. The independent jury has lauded MartinBauer’s comprehensive commitment to sustainability, emphasizing that even in a challenging economic environment, MartinBauer has shown that real transformation is possible and has demonstrated solutions that bring genuine results.
In 2025, foundation Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e. V. presents the German Sustainability Award for the 18th time, honoring the pioneering contributions that companies and organizations are making toward a more sustainable future. By rewarding the most impressive examples, the foundation shows how ecological and social progress can be achieved more rapidly.
Sustainability as a business strategy
MartinBauer is a fourth-generation family business that is pursuing a comprehensive strategy toward more sustainable practices. That includes ecological goals such as reducing CO2e emissions by 55% by the year 2030 (base year 2020), achieving climate neutrality at its sites around the globe and in its supply chains, progressively expanding its energy management system, and ensuring supply-chain transparency. The company has also set itself social goals including improving occupational health and safety, and increasing the number of women in management positions. Thanks to years of preparatory work, the company has achieved concrete successes with, for example, the sustainable procurement of its botanical raw materials, the switch to renewable energies, and improved energy efficiency. In September 2025, MartinBauer published its annual progress report in line with its SBTi commitment, and soon its third Sustainability Report based on the GRI standard will be released. Anne Wedel-Klein, great-granddaughter of the company’s founder Martin Bauer and CEO of the nature network, explains her company’s strategic approach: “At the nature network, botanicals are our be-all and end-all. So it makes good economic sense for us to ensure sustainable practices at our sites and in our supply chains. This way, we have consistently made sustainability a core element of our business.”
Confirmation and motivation
Sebastian Sieben, CEO of MartinBauer, sees the win as confirmation of what has already been achieved and as motivation to take further bold steps: “We are delighted to have won this award. It shows that we are on the right path with our sustainable transformation and that we are a pioneer in the industry. But we couldn’t do it without our valuable customers and raw materials partners: together, we develop strong, viable ideas that can effect fundamental change.”
